As representatives of the Undergraduate Student Body at the University of Notre Dame, we fully support President Obama’s creation of the task force to protect students from sexual assault on our campuses. We have a responsibility to our peers to foster a culture that promotes active bystander intervention, speaking out against language that trivializes sexual violence, and that supports survivors in the process of healing. One case of sexual violence is one too many. The "One Is Too Many" campaign at Notre Dame is a student-driven initiative to bring the topic of sexual violence into mainstream consciousness and conversation and to develop an attitudinal shift that leads to a culture that understands sexual violence and actively works to prevent it. President Obama's task force is an important commitment to increasing awareness and prevention of sexual violence, and we look forward to working towards this shared goal.
