Chief of Staff Michael Markel

Michael Markel is a senior studying Neuroscience and Behavior with a minor in Peace Studies. He is originally from Canton, Ohio but now calls Dunne Hall his Notre Dame home. Freshman Class Council was where he began his Student Government career; following his experiences, he worked as the Vice President of the Sophomore Class Council and served as a member of the Junior Class Council. He has participated in the Global Medical Brigades efforts to bring medical aid to the people of Estelí, Nicaragua and, closer to home, volunteered at Memorial Hospital. Michael has a passion for mental health issues and has done research in Dr. Anne Simons' Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Laboratory and Dr. Michelle Wirth's Emotion and Stress Physiology Laboratory.

As Chief of Staff, Michael hopes to foster cooperation among student groups and create a welcoming environment where everyone can feel comfortable expressing themselves in addition to refining their leadership skills. He welcomes any questions or concerns and can be reached at mmarkel@nd.edu.
